    The Serial Animal Stacker

Basil is getting to a cool stage where he is starting to really play independently. He does neat little projects throughout the day, making a mess as he goes along, of course.

Recently, with no adult prompting or scaffolding, he has started stacking his plastic animals, testing out different balancing abilities and trying various combinations. I thought it was pretty cool when he came running excitedly into the kitchen one afternoon, "mommy, come look 'harrypottermus' (meaning hippopotamus)!"

He pulled me away from the sink and ran into the living room to share his creation. He had balanced the tiny plastic hippo on top of the much larger elephant. It really made me laugh! Since then, the stacking has become even more interesting. I love seeing his imagination at work and I know it will only get better.

Needless to say, I've been taking pictures of some of the cooler designs. Perhaps there will be more to come.

Oh my goodness - how cute is that? I love the creations he is making! My particular favorite is the tiger on the window. Also, the photos are awesome.
